Gibbs and Ojha Star Deccan Stay on Top of the Table

Durban: Mumbai team could only made 156 in their stipulated overs as they fell short of 12 runs to achieve their desired target of 169 runs.

Pragyan Ojha finished with figures of 3 for 21 in four overs while RP Singh and Fidel Edwards picked up two wickets apiece.

Mumbai had slipped from 86 for 1 to 92 for 4 but they weren't giving up. In Abhishek Nayar and Dwayne Bravo, they had two clean strikers and both made crisp starts before they were dismissed by Edwards, effectively ending Mumbai's challenge.

Ojha came back strongly after the break as he got rid of Sachin Tendulkar, Shikhar Dhawan and JP Duminy in three overs. Ojha first foxed Sachin, who scored 36 runs in 27 balls that included 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Pragyan Ojha's over after the strategy break, when Tendulkar and Duminy came out looking like they had lost all the rhythm and fluency they displayed before the break. Ojha conceded only 2 runs and got Tendulkar out. From then, Mumbai was always playing catch-up.

Earlier, Adam Gilchrist won the toss and expectedly elected to bat. Both teams had one change each - Dwayne Smith came in for Scott Styrish for Hyderabad, while Rohan Raje made way for Dhwawal Kulkarni for Mumbai.

Gilchrist and Gibbs started in typical fashion, with boundaries and sixes coming thick and fast - some of edges, some of the middle of the bat. Gilchrist fell after a quickfire 35, but the openers had done their job with a stand of 63 in 6.5 overs.

Mumbai's experienced bowling attack seized the opportunity - Malinga picked up 3 for 19 with searing yorkers - and ensured that Deccan managed only 43 runs off the last seven overs for the loss of seven wickets. However, Deccan had already given their bowlers a target which they were able to defend.

Brief Score: Deccan Chargers 168/9 (Gibbs 58, Bravo 3-34, Malinga 3-19) beat Mumbai Indians 156/7 (Duminy 47, Ojha 3-21) by 12 runs.
