Gayle, de Villiers Power Bangalore to Easy Win

Mohali: Chris Gayle (87 off 56 balls) and AB de Villiers (52 off 39 balls) fired again to help Bangalore notch up comprehensive five-wicket victory over Kings XI Punjab.

Chris Gayle and De Villiers stitched 131-run stand to put Kings XI Punjab on backfoot in their IPL 5 match at PCA stadium in Mohali.

Royal Challengers bounced back after the loss of quick wickets as Gayle and De Villiers reached to their century stand in just 62 balls to take Bangalore closer to victory.

Gayle slammed his consecutive fifty in 41 balls, smacking five fours and a six to keep Bangalore afloat in the match.

Royal Challengers Bangalore stuttered early in chase of 164 after losing three quick wickets against Kings XI Punjab. Parvinder Awana led Bangalore trouble by claiming all first three wickets to leave the Royal Challengers struggling at 25/3 in 5.1 overs.

Saurabh Tiwary, who batted brilliantly against Pune Warriors, mistimed his pull shot that went straight to keeper Nitin Saini's hand.

Punjab's seamer struck twice in his first over to dismiss Mayank Agarwal and Virat Kohli against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Kohli missed out again as he went for the drive, got an inside edge and Shaun Marsh took spectacular catch at point while Agarwal was caught plumb in front of the wicket.

Earlier, Azhar Mahmood blasted in his first match of the IPL with an unbeaten 33 off 14 balls to take Kings XI Punjab to a competitive total of 163/6 against Bangalore.

Mahmood smashed three fours and two sixes in his flamboyant knock to boost Punjab's chances in the match. Piyush Chawla remained unbeaten on 7 off 3 balls.

Mahmood also added valuable 44 runs stand in 25 balls for the sixth wicket after Kings XI Punjab were struggling with the quick fall of wickets.

Harshal Patel joined the party to pile more misery on Punjab after removing the big fish David Hussey, who played 41-run knock off 34 balls.

David Miller, who replaced injured skipper Adam Gilchrist, failed to grab the opportunity as he mistimed his shot which was caught by Zaheer Khan at extra cover off Andrew McDonald.

McDonald gave Kings XI Punjab their third blow when he got rid of well-settled Shaun Marsh, who scored a 17-ball 26 with the help of three fours and one six.

Shaun Marsh and David Hussey took Punjab past 50-run mark in the seventh over after losing both the openers early on in the innings.

Zaheer Khan gave Royal Challengers Bangalore double breakthrough as he scalped Nitin Saini and Paul Valthaty in his successive overs.

Gilchrist had suffered a hamstring injury on Wednesday and pulled out and the team would be led by the other Aussie, David Hussey.
