Kolkata: Former Indian captain and opening batsman batsman Sourav Ganguly may play for Essex County Club in England's domestic T20 competition next year.
It is learnt that Ganguly, who will captain Kolkata Knight Riders in the third season of the IPL, is in talks with Essex for the Friends Provident T20 championship, to be held from June 1-August 14 next year.
If Ganguly inks a deal, this will be the first time that the former India captain will be recruited by an overseas club after his retirement from international cricket.
The southpaw, who retired from international cricket after the Australia series last year, has in the past played for Lancashire in 2000, Glamorgan in 2005 and Northamptonshire in 2006 in county cricket.
He had also played in England's domestic T20 meet, then called the Twenty20 Cup, for Glamorgan and Northamptonshire.
According to information, Ganguly could also take part in exhibition matches in Florida and Toronto in February.
Middlesex, after signing Adam Gilchrist, are also hoping to secure the services of Sachin Tendulkar for the Twenty20 Cup.
