Gambhir, Tendulkar Tons Secure Draw Against Lanka

Ahmedabad: Sachin Tendulkar celebrated his 20th year in Test cricket with a 43rd century on Friday as India secure draw the first Test against Sri Lanka.

Sachin Tendulkar completed 30,000 runs in international career and he slammed his 43rd century during the India-Sri Lanka first Test. Sachin slammed 43rd century in his fight to save the first Test against Sri Lanka in the final day.

After completing 17,000 runs in the 50-over format of the game, the batting maestro achieved another milestone by completing 30,000 runs in his international career during the first Test.

Master Blaster Sachin became the first batsman to complete 30,000 international runs when he scored his 35th run in the second innings against Sri Lanka.

Sachin became the seventh batsman in the match to reach three figures on a batsman-friendly wicket in the opener of a three-Test series and faced 211 balls, hitting 12 boundaries.

He has so far played 160 Tests, 436 ODIs and a lone Twenty20 scoring 88 international hundreds and 144 fifties in all.

Gautam Gambhir 114 (230b, 12x4) was the only wicket to fall in the afternoon session, but not before the elegant left-handed opener had compiled his seventh Test century.

In a rare lack of concentration, Gambhir charged left-arm spinner Rangana Herath's delivery and offered a tame catch to Dammika Prasad at mid-off.

Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara tried his luck with the second new ball midway through the second session but failed to find another breakthrough.

Earlier, India added 66 runs in the morning session after resuming at the overnight 190 for 2 and lost the lone wicket of nightwatchman Amir Mishra (24).

However, tailender Mishra made Sri Lanka's bowlers labor for nearly an hour to get rid of him.

Tillakaratne Dilshan took a superb catch at leg gully as Mishra played a decent shot only to see it caught just inches of the ground.

Ace off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has now bowled 32 wicketless overs in the second innings and conceded 98 runs, but the dead nature of the wicket has given nothing to either the seam or spin bowlers.

Herath (2 for 97) was the pick of Sri Lanka's bowler while seamers Mathews (1 for 29) and Chanaka Welegedara (1 for 76) shared the remaining two wickets.
