London: Steven Finn took two wickets for four runs in eight balls as England regained their grip on the first Test against Bangladesh at Lord's on Saturday.
Bangladesh were 237 for seven in reply to England's 505 for six a deficit of 268 and still needing a further 69 runs to avoid the follow-on.
Fast bowler Finn, playing his first Test in England and on his Middlesex home ground, had Test-best figures of four wickets for 75 runs in 20 overs.
He was well supported by fellow seamer James Anderson, who took two wickets for nine runs in nine overs, with three maidens, on Saturday.
Mahmudullah was 7 not out and Shahadat Hossain three not out, with Bangladesh losing four wickets for 42 runs in the second session.
After rain meant no play before lunch, Bangladesh resumed on their overnight score of 172 for two in this first of a two-Test series.
Junaid Siddique was 53 not out and Jahurul Islam unbeaten on 16.
Overcast skies made batting a much tougher prospect than it had been on Friday and England did not have long to wait for a third wicket.
Finn, who after Friday's play stressed the need for England to build pressure in order to take wickets, struck in Saturday's fourth over.
The 6ft 7in 21-year-old, who first featured in Tests during England's 2-0 series win in Bangladesh in March, had Siddique, on 59, fending at a ball that got 'big' on the left-hander and wicketkeeper Matt Prior held the edge.
Bangladesh then saw 179 for three transformed into 185 for four when Finn, on his Middlesex home ground, had Mohammad Ashraful lbw for four with a good length ball.
Replays suggested the ball was going down the leg-side and over the top of the stumps.
But, with the Umpire Decision Review System (DRS) not in use this match after the International Cricket Council (ICC) and host broadcaster Sky failed to reach agreement over costs, there was no appeal against Sri Lankan umpire Asoka de Silva's decision.
The collapse continued when Anderson produced a superb delivery that moved late and induced an edge from Jahurul Islam (20) through to Prior.
Bangladesh, who'd battled hard on Friday, were now 191 for five.
Finn, who'd removed Imrul Kayes with a well-directed bouncer on Friday, took two for 33 in his initial seven overs on Saturday.
That Bangladesh's luck was out as exemplified when Shakib fell for 25, chasing a wide delivery from Anderson.
Prior dropped the easy catch, despite getting both gloves to the ball, but the rebound fell kindly for England captain Andrew Strauss at first slip.
England's total was built around South Africa born Jonathan Trott's 226 -- only the seventh double century by an England batsman in a Lord's Test and the 14th in total.
Fast bowler Shahadat Hossain took five for 98 -- the first time a Bangladeshi had taken five wickets in a Test innings at Lord's.
