Bangalore: The last time Royal Challengers Bangalore met the South Australian Redbacks, the latter ran away with an impressive win. That was in Durban last year in the second edition of the CLT20. Since then a lot has changed, at least in the RCB camp, with the side undergoing a wholesale change in personnel.
And no one seems to feel as much at home as the man from Jamaica, Chris Gayle. In a must-win match on Monday, much like the one to come on Wednesday night at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was not Gayle's sixes alone, all eight of them, that stood out. The big man had realised the gravity of the situation and buckled down to the task.
What he also did in the process is to ease the net run rate issue for RCB for their final game. Certainly the Redbacks are in a better position as their progress lies in their own hands, with a win seeing them through, while RCB even if they win, will be dependent on what went on earlier in the evening, in the Warriors vs Somerset game, the first match of Wednesday's double header.
Warriors favourites to make semis: The final set of league matches to be played and all five teams in with a chance to make the semis as the two teams from Group B, what more can you ask for? Good, clear weather to start with could be one wish.
For Warriors, one of the pre-tournament favourites, and Somerset, one of three qualifiers, the best part about the first of Wednesday's two games at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, would be that their fate is otherwise in their own hands.
South Australia have settled on a bowling attack of two spinners and two seamers. Shaun Tait hasn't been part of that combination after a poor first game. Given the size of the boundaries and the speed of the outfield in Bangalore, they would not want to risk playing him and should be fielding an unchanged side.
The Royal Challengers brought in Arun Karthik to free Tillakaratne Dilshan of the wicketkeeping responsibilities against Somerset. They also persisted with Raju Bhatkal and Syed Mohammad. The same XI could be playing tomorrow.
