Nottingham: England captain Andrew Strauss won the toss and elected to bat in the day/night fifth One-Day International at Trent Bridge on Tuesday.
England, already an irretrievable 4-0 down in the seven-match series, made one change to the side that lost by six wickets at Lord's on Saturday.
Hampshire's Dimitri Mascarenhas was recalled in place of Luke Wright after the Sussex all-rounder injured his toe batting in the indoor nets at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough, central England.
This was the 19th One-Day International for the 31-year-old Mascarenhas, born in west London but raised in Perth, Australia.
Opening batsman Strauss was passed fit despite being hit on the head batting in the nets earlier Tuesday by England fast bowler Graham Onions.
Australia also made one change with Brett Lee rested, despite his man-of-the-match winning five wickets for 49 runs at Lord's, and fellow fast bowler Peter Siddle recalled in his place.
This was the fifth time this series that Strauss had won the toss.
