Dharamsala: HPCA president Anuraag Thakur on Thursday said that there is a strong possibility that Dharamsala could host a one-day international next year.
Speaking on the closing ceremony of the JP T-20 Mahasangram tournament, he said that all the formalities to host an ODI have been met with.
To hold an ODI, a clearance from the ICC is a must. The last visit by an ICC referee was on September 5, 2006.
Former Australian fast bowler Alan Hurst, then visiting referee, had put strong objections on the non-availability of the required facilities for the players outside the stadium such as accommodation and roads.
Since then, the HPCA has rectified the shortcomings, said one official.
Dharamsala cricket stadium, which came into existence in 2002, is now of international standard and it serves as the home ground to the Himachal Pradesh state cricket team and also for the IPL team Kings XI Punjab to a limited extent.
By virtue of its natural backdrop, it is one of the most attractive cricket stadiums in India.
Last year, the Dalai Lama graced an IPL match between Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings at the picturesque Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium in Dharamshala.
The IPL IV will have three matches here. The venue hosted a match of Pakistan team in 2005, Mohammad Nissar trophy final of Indo-Pak teams in 2006, South Africa A team in 2007, India-Australia U-19 ODIs in 2007.
