Vadodara: ROI captain Anil Kumble won the toss and call Sehwag for bowling. The Wall of India for years, Rahul Dravid, who opened the innings with Wasim Jaffer, missed what could have been his 100th first class 50 when Ishant Sharma trapped him plumb in front for 46.
A strong contender for a middle order berth, S Badrinath, senior pro VVS Laxman and crowd favourite MS Dhoni too didn't last long. When ROI lost their fifth wicket they had managed to score just 172 runs in 63 overs, and that too after most of them had got a start. Rest were 105 for one at lunch, 167 for four at tea and finally managed to stretch it past the 250 marks, thanks to some lusty hitting down the order by RP Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Munaf Patel.
Earlier, Jaffer drove uppishly to short cover after he reached his 50. Laxman swept to be caught at midwicket while Dhoni edged one to the slips. Kaif was not out third time lucky two of his earlier lofted shots fell in no man's land.
