Durban: Second defeat on Chennai Super Kings. Chennai were 180/9 in 20 overs in pursuit of 190 against Delhi Daredevils in the ninth match of the second edition of the Indian Premier League at Kingsmead in Durban on Thursday.
After the Hayden blitz, Chennai required 84 from 10 overs, with eight wickets in hand. And when Raina got out, they were still the favourites, 51 required off 35, and Flintoff and Morkel still in. But then they choked, losing wickets, imploding amid sensible bowling and sharp fielding by Delhi. Bowling changes worked perfectly for them, especially with Sangwan and Vettori. All in all, the first close match of the tournament
AB de Villiers' blitzkrieg knock of 105 came off 54 balls and was studded with 6 sixes and 5 fours.
de Villiers hit 2 sixes and 2 fours in one over by Flintoff and his onslaught spared none of the Chennai Super Kings bowlers, not even his country man Albie Morkel whom he hit for a four and a six in the 17th over.
Earlier, after Sehwag won the toss and elected to bat first, Delhi got off to a poor start when they lost Gautam Gambhir on the very first ball off Lakshmipathy Balaji. Gambhir walked down the pitch, left the ball but was a bit lazy to take his hands completeley out of the way and the ball edged off the gloves and Mahendra Singh Dhoni took an easy catch.
AB de Villiers declared man of the match for his first ton in IPL.
