Cooley New Head Coach of Australian Academy

Sydney: The Australian team's bowling coach Troy Cooley will become the new head coach of Cricket Australia's (CA) Centre of Excellence, CA said on Monday.

Cooley, 44, replaces Greg Chappell, who was recently announced in the newly created role of CA National Talent manager.

Cooley will continue to support the Australia team's Ashes series against England later this year and 2011 ICC World Cup campaign, CA said in a statement.

In 2003 Cooley was recruited by the England and Wales Cricket Board as their fast bowling coach and was instrumental in England's 2005 Ashes success before returning to the Australian system in 2006 as its bowling coach.

The Centre of Excellence, formerly called the Cricket Academy, has developed current Test players Michael Clarke, Shane Watson, Mitchell Johnson and Nathan Hauritz among others.

CA said it will replace Cooley as the Australian team's bowling coach shortly following discussions with head coach Tim Nielsen and an assessment process.
