Chris Hartley Gets Just Reward

Melbourne: Wicketkeeper Chris Hartley has been rewarded for his outstanding season with Queensland by being named the Sheffield Shield Player of the Series at the State Cricket Awards on Monday.

It is a massive boost for Hartley and the Bulls as they prepare to take on Victoria in the Sheffield Shield final starting on Wednesday at the MCG.

Hartley polled 17 votes to narrowly edge out Bushrangers fast bowler Damien Wright (16), while New South Wales opener Phillip Hughes (14) rounded out the top three.

Victorian veteran Brad Hodge took home the Ford Ranger Cup Player of the Series award.

Hodge, who announced his retirement from first-class cricket during the season, polled 24 votes to comfortably finish clear of Tasmanian duo George Bailey (20) and Travis Birt (16).

South Australia's West Indian import Kieron Pollard tied with NSW power-hitter David Warner to take out the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash Player of the Series award.

The pair both polled 12 votes to finish two clear of Tasmanian import Rana Naved, while Victoria's import Dwayne Bravo polled nine.

The Australian Cricketers' Association Johnnie Walker Teams of the Year were also named on Monday and surprisingly only one Bushranger, John Hastings, was named in the four-day team despite the Vics clearly finishing on top of the table.

Hastings enjoyed a breakthrough season this summer and excelled in all forms of the game to be the only player named in all three teams of the year.
