Sydney: Cameron White will stay in South Africa for Australia's one-day series against the Proteas as cover for the injured Shane Watson and Shaun Marsh.
White was due to fly back home after captaining Australia during the recently completed tied Twenty20 series against South Africa.
The batsman will now delay his departure as Watson and Marsh both nurse hip and shoulder ailments respectively.
But the injured pair could still feature in the three-match ODI series which kicks off on Wednesday night (AEDT), according to Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris.
"Shane Watson is recovering from a hip muscle strain which caused him to miss yesterday's second Twenty20 match," Kountouris said.
He will continue with treatment and we will assess him over the next 24 hours before a decision is made on his availability for the first ODI game on Wednesday.
Shaun Marsh injured his left shoulder when diving in the field during the second Twenty20 game yesterday at the Wanderers.
He has undergone scans today in Johannesburg which have cleared him of any major damage and he will be assessed closer to the game on Wednesday.
