London: England called up Tim Bresnan to their squad for the forthcoming one-day series against Sri Lanka on Monday, following the Yorkshire all-rounder's recovery from a calf injury.
Bresnan is available for the opening clash of a five-match one-day international (ODI) series against Sri Lanka at The Oval on Tuesday.
His injury problems ruled Bresnan out of both England's recent 1-0 win in a three-Test series against Sri Lanka and Saturday's nine-wicket loss against the same opponents in the lone Twenty20 international in Bristol.
Bresnan's inclusion ought to strengthen an England side that suffered both a lower-order collapse against Sri Lanka in Bristol and then made little impression with the ball.
The 26-year-old's calf problems date back to England's tour of Australia where, having played a significant role in wins in the last two Ashes Tests in Melbourne and Sydney, he returned home before the one-day series with pain in his right leg.
Bresnan featured at the World Cup in the sub-continent where the injury flared up again.
He has played two Twenty20 matches for Yorkshire in the last week, with returns of nought for 27 off three overs and one for 47 off four overs.
Bresnan, has won 42 one-day caps and is vastly more experienced than fellow seamers Jade Dernbach or Chris Woakes, both of whom struggled on Saturday.
However, Bresnan himself could only manage none for 40 in eight overs against Sri Lanka during his last ODI appearance - a 10-wicket World Cup quarterfinal thrashing by the eventual losing finalists in Colombo in March.
New one-day captain Alastair Cook will become England's third leader in as many matches on Tuesday following Test skipper Andrew Strauss, now retired from ODIs, and Twenty20 chief Stuart Broad.
