Bravo Hit Ton as West Indies Pile a Mountain of Runs

Mumbai: Darren Bravo's magnificent 166 ensured West Indies dominated Day 2 also, though India did strike late blows. WI ended at 575/9, with Ashwin (4/154) and Aaron (3/106) among the wickets.

Debutant Varun Aaron struck in his successive overs to remove Darren Bravo and Carlton Baugh. Aaron is on a roll as he captured his third wicket of the innings when Darren Sammy looked to punch the outside off delivery but ball took a edge and MS Dhoni made no mistake behind the wickets.

Aaron, who is playing his first Test match, claimed his maiden Test wicket when he dismissed Bravo. The southpaw played marathon knock as he scored 166 off 284 balls with the help of 17 boundaries.

In his next over, Aaron struck again to remove Baugh, who tried to cut but the ball came off the bottom edge and rattled the off stump.

Earlier, Bravo and Samuels took the West Indies first innings score to 494 for 4 at tea.

The second session of the day also belonged to the West Indies as they scored 116 runs with the loss of just one wicket of Kieran Powell.

Powell played well to score 81 runs before edging a Pragyan Ojha delivery into the hands of MS Dhoni.

Powell hit 9 fours in his knock and added 160 runs for the fourth wicket with Darren Bravo.

Powell reached his second half-century soon after the West Indies crossed the 400-run mark.

This is first time that the top five West Indies batsmen have scored at least a half-century in the same innings.

Bravo and Powell took the West Indies first innings to 378/3 at lunch.

The first session of the day belonged to the West Indies as they scored 111 runs with the loss of just one wicket as the Indian bowlers toiled hard in the Mumbai heat.

Bravo, who reached 1000 runs of his career with a superb off-drive off Varun Aaron on the first ball of the day, defied India hitting his third century, second in a row.

All of Bravo's centuries have come in the last six innings.

Bravo, who was dropped by Rahul Dravid when he was on 33 on Day 1, got to his century with the help of 12 fours.

The ton came after Ishant Sharma had Kirk Edwards caught behind by MS Dhoni as the West Indies lost their third wicket with more than 300 runs on the board.

Edwards hit 13 fours in his 86-run knock adding 164 runs for the third wicket with Darren Bravo.
