New Delhi: The Delhi Daredevils have won their last match of the tournament. With that, they break the Cape Cobras' unbeaten record in the Champions League. Defending a modest total of 114, Delhi won by 30 runs as the trecherous wicket at the Feroz Shah Kotla worked to their bowlers' advantage.
Strangely, Delhi won without the services of Sehwag, Nehra and McGrath as their youngsters came good for them. Dilshan failed to fire with the bat but returned with commendable figures of 16 for 2 with the ball. Nannes was fast, furious and brilliant with figures of 19 for 3.
Unfortunately, this win does not do anything to Delhi's cause. They are still out of the tournament. Owais Shah was Man of the Match for his unbeaten 39 in the Daredevils innings. The Cape Cobras will be happy they will be playing their semi-final at Hyderabad against Trinidad and Tobago. That match will take place on Thursday. It will be an all-Australian semi-final on Wednesday as New South Wales Blues take on Victorian Bushrangers at Feroz Shah Kotla.
Earlier, Delhi Daredevils have managed 114-6 in their first innings after being put in to bat. They got off to a disastrous start as openers, Dilshan and Gambhir, continued their bad run of form in the series.
Things were always going to be difficult without star-batsman Virender Sehwag and the Cobras maintained the pressure well. Karthik looked good but was run out by Shah at a crucial stage. Unlike the openers, Owais Shah found some late form in the tournament, helping his team to a respectable total on a slow wicket.
Only six boundaries and one six was scored in the entire innings. Without Nehra and McGrath this total will be hard to defend against a brilliant batting line-up.
