Navi Mumabi: Playing at 'home' did not improve Pune Warriors' fortunes as they lost to Chennai Super Kings for the second time in the space of three days, this time by eight wickets. At the DY Patil Stadium on Wednesday, Warriors set CSK a target of 142 which the defending champions reached comfortably, more or less.
CSK skipper MS Dhoni's decision to go in with three spinners and three pacers was on the dot. Paceman Doug Bollinger was the pick of bowlers for him, scalping three important wickets for just 21 runs.
Though Yuvraj (62 from 43 balls) played a gallant knock, rescuing his side from an embarrassing situation, there was no stopping in-form S Badrinath (63, 44b, 6x4s, 2x6s) when CSK launched their reply. He came at No. 3 and saw the visitors home with able support from Suresh Raina (34, 25b, 1x4, 2x6s). Their 50-run partnership off 38 balls was the turning point of the game.
Warriors, thus, suffered their fourth consecutive loss and need to pull up their socks urgently.
Yuvraj opted to bat considering that the grass on the pitch was cut a day earlier. Putting runs on the board seemed a logical choice. However, the Warriors did not get the desired start and then wickets fell at regular intervals. Both openers, Jesse Ryder and Mohnish Mishra, succumbed to the fiery pace of Doug Bollinger within a span of three balls.
Manish Pandey and Mithun Manhas fared no better. Manhas was out for a duck to Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Kulasekara who came into this match in place of compatriot Suraj Randiv.
