Townsville: West Indies and Pakistan recorded nine-wicket wins at the ICC Under-19 World Cup in Queensland on Monday Sri Lanka notched easy triumphs.
Papua New Guinea v West Indies
Papua New Guinea won the toss and elected to bat in their clash against the West Indies in Townsville but it proved to be a poor decision as they were routed for just 116.
At 2-43 in the 15th over, things were not disastrous for the ICC affiliate nation but Kyle Mayers (3-12) ripped through the middle order, taking three wickets in two overs.
Christopher Kent (39) battled valiantly while Chad Soper (23) and Nigel Boge (21) tried to stop the flow of wickets but they had no help, with bowler Toua Tom posting his side's fourth highest score with just seven.
West Indian left-armer Jerome Jones (3-15) backed up an impressive performance against India with another terrific showing while spinner Akeal Hosein (2-23) chipped in as well.
In response, the West Indies chased down their victory target inside 12 overs as Sunil Ambris treated the crowd at Endeavour Park to a sublime exhibition of hitting.
Ambris walloped 91 runs from 43 deliveries, including nine fours and seven sixes as the West Indies cruised to a comfortable victory.
Scotland U19 v Pakistan U19
Pakistan also won easily, with Babar Azam's 106 not out leading them to a convincing triumph against Scotland on the Sunshine Coast.
Ross McLean (59) was Scotland's best but they collapsed from 2-146 to be dismissed for just 200, with left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz (4-20) the pick of the bowlers.
And Azam and Sami Aslam (78) helped Pakistan to a nine-wicket win, achieved with 82 balls to spare.
Sri Lanka U19 v Namibia U19
The day's other match saw Sri Lanka thrash Namibia by 195 runs, with the winners scoring 9-298 thanks to a team effort in which five players made more than 35.
Medium-pacer Lahiru Madushanka (4-15) helped rip through Namibia, who were bowled out for just 103 in response.
