New Delhi: Following skipper MS Dhoni's assertion that Team India was missing a bowling coach after the exit of Venkatesh Prasad, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to appoint a new one to assist head coach Gary Kirsten.
Dhoni had stressed that the absence of regular bowling and fielding coaches was resulting in an increased workload on Kirsten.
Though BCCI is yet to consult players on this issue, sources suggested a bowling coach would be hired in time for the South Africa home series. Top names doing the rounds include South Africans Allan Donald and Eric Simons.
In 2007, when BCCI was in the process of hiring a bowling coach, former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar had suggested TA Sekhar's name, but BCCI rejected it since Sekhar was attached to the MRF Pace Foundation. South African Fanie de Villiers' name was also in the running for the post till former India pacer Prasad got the job.
BCCI sacked Prasad and Robin Singh as bowling and fielding coaches in October after the country's early exit from the T20 World Cup in England and the Champions Trophy in South Africa. India climbed to the top of the Test rankings for the first time in December but the team has struggled to establish supremacy in ODIs.
