NZ v Bangladesh, Only Test, 4th day, Hamilton

Bangladesh Struggle to Chasing 404 Against NZ

Hamilton: The Bangladesh top order collapsed timidly, for the second time in the match, leaving New Zealand on the verge of victory at the end of the fourth day in Hamilton.

A brilliant spell from Daniel Vettori was supported well by his spinning parter Jeetan Patel, and reduced the tourists to 88 for 5, still 316 runs away from an unlikely victory. Jeeten Patel and the skipper bowled consecutive wicket-maidens shortly before the close of play, taking the game well and truly away from Bangladesh.

Tamim Iqbal gave the visitors the opening, slogging to long off where a back-pedalling Daryl Tuffey took an important to catch. The remainder of the top order folded feebly under pressure, with New Zealand hot on attack in the final session.

Earlier, New Zealand declared their innings on 258/5 setting Bangladesh a target of 404 runs. Chasing a huge target, Bangladesh are 85-5 and struggling to stay alive in this Test match.

The visitors inconsistency with the bat was exposed once again by the quality bowling attack of the Kiwis. Bangladesh started of their 2nd innings in style with Tamim Iqbal (30) coming out all guns blazing.

But, after adding 35 runs for the first wicket, Iqbal gifted his wicket to the Kiwis and then there was a collapse in the Bangladesh batting order. They lost all the top five batsmen for just 43 runs. Vettori (2-24) and Patel (1-13) were the pick of the bowlers with Martin also chipping in with 1 wicket.
