Hobart: Khurram Manzoor provided some resistance with a 239-ball 77 but once he fell, Pakistan folded quickly.
Excellent performance by the Aussies. After struggle at Sydney, Australia have completed a clinical performance over the visitors beating them for the 12th Consecutive time in Tests.
The batting was led by the local boy, skipper Ricky Ponting and vice-captain Michael Clarke while the bowling attack was shared by Watson, Hauritz and Siddle with some key contributions from Katich.
The hosts were in some early trouble after electing to bat, but recovered well to post 519 for 8 dec. In reply, Pakistan's batting faltered once again and they could muster only 301 with a century from Butt and a half-century from Malik being the only highlights. Australia did not enforce the follow-on and declared on 219, this time Katich reaching the three figures.
Set a target of 438, Pakistan's batting order came under fire again and there was a bit of a resistance from the lower order but it was just a matter of time before the Kangaroos finished things off. Not a single bowler from either side could pick up more than 3 wickets in any innings.
In the end, Australia won by a mammoth 231 runs. ricky ponting has been named the man-of-the-match for his scores of 209 in the first innings and 89 in the second.shane watson has been named the man-of-the-series.
End of the Australian summer in white clothing. The hosts played 6 Tests and won 5 of them, 2 against the West Indies and all 3 against the Pakistanis. Australia have been on an improving stage right from the Ashes in 2009 and their bowling is now slowly getting back to its strength.
The batting still has its issues especially in the middle order. However, their opening pair now looks settled. Pakistan, on the other hand, have got an excellent bowling attack, but their batting simply is not up to the fight, having seen them play in the last 6 Tests, of which, they have won only 1. They played too many shots and in the end, lived by the sword and died by it as well. Looking back at the series, they would probably feel that they should have won the Sydney Test and that could have well brought about a change in momentum.
