Harare: The Australia A one-day squad have an unblemished record heading into tomorrow’s one-day final against South Africa A in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Coach Troy Cooley said he was pleased with the way the team had played so far and that the players were looking forward to the final.
"The playing conditions have been excellent and the pitch and outfield are improving all the time so a big final is expected. Each team has learnt more about how the other plays and it will come down to who is up for the final," Cooley said from Zimbabwe.
"Tim Paine has lead well and the boys are playing good cricket as a team; the fielding has been exceptional in supporting our bowlers.
"We have played good cricket so far, but we are still looking to improve and play our best cricket come Friday.
"Unfortunately we will miss Nic Maddinson and Matthew Wade through injury, but we welcome the early arrival of Phillip Hughes and Jason Krejza adding some options for the final," he said.
The squad is 4-0, but not without some scares along the way, including a nail-bitting one-wicket win against South Africa A on Tuesday.
"They batted well and posted a very good score with our bowlers coming under some pressure on a good batting pitch and an outfield that is getting quicker every day. O’Keefe and Marsh were probably the pick of the bowlers as well as two run outs from a good fielding performance," Cooley said.
"Our batting started well with Finch and Warner, but it was some exciting power hitting from Marsh that put us in a great position. We lost a few quick wickets at the back end of the innings and it looked all but over when Ferguson was out late in the last 10 overs till Copland and Lyon brought us home. Lyon hit a huge six with two balls to spare to see us home with a wicket to spare," he said.
The one-day Final will be played tomorrow at Harare Sports Club starting at 5pm AEST (9am local).
The Australia A four-day squad are on their way to Zimbabwe to start the longer format series, starting with a two-day tour match on 11-12 July with the first of the two four day matches starting on 15 July.
