Jaipur: Riding high on brilliant knocks from Brad Hodge and Ashok Menaria and a disciplined execution by the bowlers, Rajasthan Royals thrashed Kolkata Knight by 22 runs to make two in a row in the fifth edition Indian premier League.
Chasing a challenging 165-run target, Kolkata Knight Riders were bundled out for 142 to concede an easy win to Rajasthan Royals in the seventh match of the tournament at Sawai Mansingh stadium.
Rajasthan bowlers ripped through Kolkata Knight Riders bating order after Brad Hodge and Ashok Menaria catapulted the hosts to 164/5.
Amit Singh gave Rajasthan early control as he sent back Jacques Kallis skipper Gautam Gambhir in the second over. Ankeet Chavan then trapped Brendon McCullum leg before wickets with scorecard reading eight runs.
Before KKR could recover from early wickets, Kevon Cooper bowled out Debabrata Das to give the visitors fourth blow.
Siddharth Trivedi's double-strike then sent back Yusuf Pathan and Rajat Bhatia in quick succession to leave Kolkata Knight Riders six down with just 77 runs on board.
Invited to bat, Rajasthan lost Ajinkya Rahane (0) in the second over following a brilliant throw by KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir.
Skipper Rahul Dravid tried to rescue his side from the early blow with his fiery show. But after scoring a quick fire 26, with the help of two sixes, he got run out giving the visitors second success at the score of 44.
Rajat Bhatia then ended the challenge of Shreevats Goswami who scored 23 facing 18 deliveries.
Rajasthan were struggling at 61/3 when Menaria was joined by Hodge. The duo stood firm against opponent attack and took the score past 100 with their sensational show.
After a solid 64-run stand for the fourth wicket between both batsmen, Brett Lee struck in the 17th over to dismiss Hodge, four short of his half-ton.
In his next over Lee got rid of Menaria with a brilliant Yorker to restrict Rajasthan to a fighting total.
Rajasthan Royals skipper Rahul Dravid was disappointed with the toss result as he said he too would have opted to bowl.
Rajasthan would be going into their match against Kolkata on Sunday with a lot of confidence. A comfortable win against Punjab on Friday night gave them just the start they wanted in this edition of the league.
On the other hand Kolkata Knight Riders will aim for their first win in the series after suffering a humiliating defeat against Delhi Daredevils in their first clash of the tournament.
