Adelaide: Riding high on brilliant knocks from Dilshan and Jayawardene, Lanka thrashed Australia by 8 wickets in the second final of the tri-series at Adelaide.
Pacer James Pattinson got the first breakthrough for Australia as he dismissed Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene after a solid opening stand in pursuit of a 272-run target.
Jayawardene scored 80 and shared a solid 179-run stand with Tillakaratne Dilshan for the first wicket after Australia scored 271/6 in the second final of the triseries at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide on Tuesday.
Dilshan reached his 27th fifty off 56 deliveries and Jayawardene's 65th half-century came off 50 balls.
Dilshan and Jayawardene brought up the Sri Lankan hundred in 15.1 overs.
Earlier, fine centuries by captain Michael Clarke and opener David Warner took Australia to 271/6.
Lasith Malinga clean bowled David Hussey on the last ball of the Australian innings.
Malinga took his second wicket when he clean bowled Michael Hussey in the 48th over.
David Warner became the eighth Australian to hit back-to-back ODI hundreds before Lasith Malinga had him caught by Tillakaratne Dilshan in the covers.
Captain Michael Clarke reached his seventh century off 81 balls with the help of 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Warner hit a six and 4 fours in his 100-run knock that came off 140 balls.
Clarke raced to his fifty off 52 balls while Warner hit an uncharacteristic 69-ball half-century.
Shane Watson failed to build on two dropped chances as Ferveez Maharoof ran him out with a direct hit.
David Warner tapped a Maharoof delivery on the leg side and called over Watson for a quick single. Maharoof, on his follow-through, picked up the ball and turned in a flash to hit the stumps at the batsman's end where a diving Watson was short of the crease.
Watson was dropped by Tillakaratne Dilshan at backward point and by Rangana Herath at long-off and both chances were off Maharoof's bowling.
The ploy to give Dilshan the new ball worked as he clean bowled Matthew Wade in the fifth over.
Wade looked to pull a quickish delivery, missed it and was bowled.
The breakthrough came after Australian captain Michael Clarke won the toss and chose to bat.
Australia have replaced Ben Hilfenhaus with Clint McKay and for Sri Lanka, Chamara Kapugedara comes in place of Dammika Prasad.
Australia took a giant step towards winning Commonwealth Bank trophy when they defeated Sri Lanka by 15 runs in the high-scoring and thrilling first final of the triseries at Brisbane on Sunday.
