Harach: Former England player Alan Butcher has been appointed Zimbabwe cricket coach. Zimbabwe Cricket managing director Ozias Bvute and selectors' convener Alistair Campbell made the announcement Saturday.
The 56-year-old Butcher will be supported by Zimbabwean assistant Stephen Mangongo, batting coach Grant Flower and bowling coach Heath Streak.
Campbell says he wants them to "get us into Test cricket in 18 months' time."
Butcher played only one Test and a lone One-Day International, but was selected as a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1991.
Zimbabwe announced in January 2006 that it was temporarily withdrawing from Test cricket and hasn't played that format since.
