Karachi: Pakistan have named a strong 16-man squad for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand that begins on January 9 in Karachi.
Pakistan have named uncapped domestic batter Tayyab Tahir for the three home ODIs against New Zealand in Karachi. Tahir, 29, has a promising List A record, averaging 43.95 in 49 matches with three hundreds and 15 fifties.
Regular vice-captain Shadab Khan is a notable absentee in the squad, having suffered a finger injury during his stint with the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League. Uncapped 27-year-old leg-spinner Usama Mir has been named in his stead.
There was no room for Abrar Ahmed who has been impressive with the red ball since making a stunning debut against England last month.
Kamran Ghulam, who was named in the Test squad recently, also gets a call-up to the ODI squad.
Meanwhile, Haris Rauf, who missed the Test series against New Zealand and the two Tests prior to that after an injury blow in the first Test of the England series, returns.
Squad:
Babar Azam (c), Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Haris Sohail, Imam-ul-Haq, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Salman Agha, Shahnawaz Dahani, Shan Masood, Tayyab Tahir, Usama Mir
