Nottingham: New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will miss the second Test against England at Trent Bridge, after testing positive for Covid-19 the night before the match.
Williamson was found to be positive for Covid following a Rapid Antigen Test after experiencing minor symptoms during the day.
The skipper has begun five days of isolation, with Tom Latham leading the side in Williamson's absence. Latham led the team during the New Zealand summer when Williamson with absent through injury.
The rest of the squad have returned negative tests, with Hamish Rutherford joining the squad as Williamson’s replacement.
“It’s such a shame for Kane to be forced to withdraw on the eve of such an important match,” New Zealand coach Gary Stead remarked.
“We’re all feeling for him at this time and know how disappointed he will be.
