Mumbai: Jasprit Bumrah, who picked 21 wickets at an average of 17 in the recently-concluded four-Test series in Australia, has been rested for the limited-overs leg of the series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Tuesday. Bumrah had a stellar tour Down Under, where he played each of the four Test, sending down 157.1 overs.
Mohammed Siraj has been included in the One-Day International (ODI) squad while Siddarth Kaul will join the side for the three T20Is in New Zealand.
"Keeping in mind the workload of the bowler, it was best felt to give him adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia," the BCCI said in a press release.
Hyderabad bowler Siraj, 24, is yet to play 50-over cricket for India, though he has played three T20Is, the last of which was against Bangladesh in March 2018.
Kaul has played two T20Is, the most recent one being the one against England in Bristol in July last year. He has ten wickets in his last two first-class games against Kerala and Hyderabad.
The three-match ODI series begins in Sydney on 12 January. The second ODI will be played in Adelaide on 15 January before the tour ends in Melbourne on 18 January with the third match. The team will then travel to New Zealand for five ODIs from 23 January.
