He was left out of the Indian squad for the upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan in Bengaluru.
The Indian seamer, who has been embroiled in controversies over the last few months, failed his fitness test at the NCA in Bengaluru.
For the same reason, he was dropped from the squad.
Delhi speedster Navdeep Saini, who had a phenomenal Ranji season bagging 34 wickets in 8 games, has been rewarded with a national call-up.
He will replace Mohammed Shami in the squad.
He was picked up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in this year's IPL season, although he could get a game.
The Delhi pacer will be joining the side captained by Ajinkya Rahane, in the absence of Virat Kohli, late on Monday.
The historic Test commences on Thursday.
