Sunrisers Hyderabad 188 for 1 (Dhawan 92*, Williamson 83*) beat Delhi Daredevils 187 for 7 (Pant-128*, Shakib 2-27) by 9 wickets.
New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Delhi Daredevils (DD) by 9 wickets as they comfortably chased 187 in the match 42 of IPL 2018 at Feroz Shah Kotla here Thursday.
After the early wicket of Alex Hales, Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan stitched a match-winning partnership of 173 to take SRH. With the win SRH became the first team to qualify for the playoffs.
Dhawan who was struggling after his comeback anchored the innings with his knock of 92* off 50 balls. In his innings he smashed 9 fours and 4 sixes.
Williamson is having a dream IPL season with the bat as he smashed his sixth half-century of the season and climbed up to the second spot in the orange cap list with 493 runs. In his knock of 83* he smashed 8 fours and 2 sixes.
Harshal Patel was the only bowler who could manage to pick one wicket in the second innings as SRH pulled their highest ever run chase with seven balls to spare without trying anything fancy.
Both players showed no signs of urgency to score ran well between the wickets and with a boundary in every over they were home.
Earlier in the match, DD lost early wickets of the openers in the Powerplay.
It was Rishabh Pant who took DD to a good total with his maiden century. He smashed 128* off 63 balls and registered the highest individual score in this season.
In the process he achieved the orange cap and became the youngest player to complete 1,000 IPL runs.
Siddarth Kaul was the bowler who took most of the hitting as he leaked 48 runs off his four overs.
