New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have named England opener Alex Hales as the replacement of David Warner for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Hales was bought for his base price of Rs 1 crore from the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP) list, BCCI said in an official statement.
Warner was supposed to lead the SRH in the tournament, but was then banned by the BCCI for his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal during the third Test against South Africa this week, which led to sacking of three Australian players, including Warner.
The Australian played as opener along with Shikhar Dhawan for the Sunrisers, so to fulfill the role of an opener SRH picked Hales.
Hales is the first and only England player till date to score a T20I century.
Also, he is the top-ranked English player and the only one to feature in the top-10 list of the ICC T20I rankings.
The 11th edition of the IPL will begin from April 7. SRH will play their opening match against Rajasthan Royals on April 9.
