Scotland 196 for 6 (Coetzer 66, Reva 3-40) beat PNG 192 for 8 (Sese Bau 41, Watt 3-21) by four wickets
Dubai: A disciplined bowling effort followed by a half-century from Kyle Coetzer helped Scotland sweep the two-match One-Day International series against Papua New Guinea as it won the second game by four wickets at Dubai International Stadium on Saturday.
Put in to bat, PNG, which had lost the first game by six wickets on Friday, started slowly before losing its first wicket in the 11th over when Kiplin Doriga was trapped in front by Mark Watt's left-arm spin for 11.
After nine balls, Tony Ura, the other opener, was run out for 16, reducing PNG to 30 for 2.
That became 52 for 4 when Michael Leask struck twice by sending back Lega Siaka and Assad Vala in the 20th and 22nd overs respectively.
Sese Bau and Mahuru Dai revived the innings, forging a 66-run stand for the fifth wicket, before Con de Lange castled the former for 41 from 59 balls, scored with two fours and a six.
John Reva added ten runs before falling lbw to Watt, who had Dai in his next over for 38, scored of 58 balls with four fours.
Jack Vare's useful 25-ball 28 towards the end helped lift PNG to 192 for 8.
Watt was Scotland's best bowler, finishing with 3 for 21, while Leask returned 2 for 42.
After the changeover, Chad Soper shook Scotland at the start, bowling Matthew Cross for just three in the second over.
Calum MacLeod, in at No. 3, added 61 runs with Coetzer for the second wicket before Vala had MacLeod caught and bowled for 19.
Coetzer shored up Scotland along with Richie Berrington, as they shared a 57-run third-wicket stand before Coetzer nicked a good-length delivery from Reva.
Coetzer scored 66 in 85 balls with seven fours and a six and when he fell, Scotland was 121 for 3 in the 30th over.
It got tricky when Reva accounted for Craig Wallace and Berrington became Soper's second victim after scoring 39 in 79 balls.
At 155 for 5, PNG still had a chance, but de Lange and George Munsey dug their heels in to take Scotland to 180 before Munsey fell for a run-a-ball 17.
De Lange stayed till the end, scoring 18 not out in 29 balls, and had Sharif for company when victory came.
Reva, the medium-pacer, returned 3 for 40, while Soper, the fast-medium bowler, had 2 for 33.
The two teams will next play the ICC Intercontinental Cup matches, starting November 29. PNG will face Hong Kong in Sharjah, while Scotland will take on Ireland at the Dubai Sports Centre.
