Harare: A dominant bowling display helped Zimbabwe square the five-match One-Day International series with a convincing seven-wicket win in the fourth game in Harare on Friday.
Zimbabwe bowled out Afghanistan for just 111 in 38.5 overs before racing to the target in 22.1 overs with seven wickets in hand.
Chris Mpofu picked up 3 for 25, while Tendai Chatara and Graeme Cremer bagged two wickets each as Afghanistan's batsmen folded without any resistance.
Afghanistan opted to bat but had a poor start as it lost its top three batsmen while managing just 12 runs in 10 overs, with Chatara bowling a superb first spell.
The first to go was debutant Ihsanullah, who flicked Chatara to midwicket to fall for a 20-ball duck in the sixth over. Chatara then bowled Rahmat Shah with a yorker in his next over, before Mohammad Shahzad pulled Richard Ngarava to midwicket leaving Afghanistan in early trouble.
Asghar Stanikzai and Hashmatullah Shahidi tried to rebuild the innings but both fell caught behind to Mpofu in identical fashion, leaving Afghanistan 46 for 5 in the 17th over.
That double-strike was followed by another double-blow by Cremer to dismiss Samiullah Shenwari and Karim Janat, ending any hope of a late Afghan comeback.
Rain brought a temporary halt to Zimbabwe's charge soon after Mohammad Nabi became the eighth batsman to fall, but once play resumed, Afghanistan folded for a low score, not managing to bat out its quota of overs.
Solomon Mire and Peter Moor, Zimbabwe's openers, raced away in the chase and made light work of the target with a quick 79-run stand.
Nabi and Rashid Khan, the Afghanistan spinners, threatened a late fightback with three quick strikes for five runs, but Moor stayed firm to help Zimbabwe past the line.
The series is now 2-2 with the final game to be played on Sunday in the same venue.
