Bangalore: Pune buy Ben Stokes for a record Rs. 14.5 crore in first round of IPL auction 2017.
So far, it has been an action-packed start at the IPL Player’s Auction and as expected Ben Stokes sparked a huge interest with around four franchises going all out to secure his services.
He bagged the second highest bid at the IPL Auction as Rising Pune Supergiants bought him for a massive Rs. 14.5 crore. This is the second highest bid of all the time after the Rs. 16 crore paid to Yuvraj Singh by Delhi Daredevils.
Eoin Morgan and Angelo Mathews were bought for Rs. 2 crore by Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils, respectively.
Pawan Negi was snapped up by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs. 1 crore, while Corey Anderson was bought by Delhi for the same amount.
Indian all rounder Irfan Pathan, Australia pacer Sean Abbott and England fast bowler Chris Jordan goes unsold on base price.
Within a few seconds his base price doubles up to Rs. 4 crore with Mumbai not willing to back down.
Delhi enter the fray but Mumbai won’t give up easily as the bid crosses the Rs. 5 crore mark.
It triggers an intense bidding war with both Delhi and Mumbai going all out to raise the bid to a whopping Rs. 7 crore and it continues to go up at a good rate.
Mathews sold to Delhi Daredevils for Rs. 2 crore: Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews with a opening base price of Rs. 2 crore also finds no takers at the auction. But hold on, as Delhi Daredevils make a late entry just as the hammer was about to go down.
Pawan Negi sold to RCB for Rs. 1 crore.
New Zealand veteran batsman Ross Taylor with a base price of Rs. 50 lakh also finds no buyer as he also goes unsold.
Jharkhand batsman Saurabh Tiwary, who played for Rising Pune Supergiants in the last edition, with a base price of Rs. 30 lakh also goes unsold.
So only one player sold in the first set of specialist batsmen.
Eoin Morgan has a base price of Rs. 2 crore as Kings XI Punjab open the bidding through their mentor Virender Sehwag.
But his England team mate dashing opener Jason Roy with a base price of Rs. 1 crore goes unsold.
The first player up for grabs is New Zealand’s Martin Guptill with a base price of Rs 50 lakh.
