India beats England to take 2-0 lead

Chandigarh: India completed an eight-wicket victory over England on the fourth day of the third Test in Mohali to go 2-0 up with two matches of the series to play.

From 78-4 overnight, England at least mustered 236 to set the home side a target of 103.

Joe Root made 78 and Haseeb Hameed, batting with a suspected broken finger, a courageous and skilful 59 not out.

Parthiv Patel hit 67 not out from 54 balls as The world number one side extended their undefeated run to 16 Tests.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on six runs at the other end. Patel hit a boundary to overhaul the target as India finished at 104/2.

Pacer Chris Woakes and leg-spinner Adil Rashid bagged a wicket each for England.

For England, who have now won only one of their past six matches, some players will be allowed to leave India on holiday before the next Test.

Earlier, England were bowled out for 236 in their second innings, setting India 103.

Resuming day four on 78-4, England lost three wickets in the morning before being dismissed in the post-lunch session.

Joe Root top-scored for the tourists with a defiant 78, while opener Haseeb Hameed, playing down the order after breaking his finger, remained not out on 59.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the home bowlers, claiming 3-81.

Ravindra Jadeja declared man of the match for his all-round performance. He picked up four wickets, scores 90 runs in only innings and excellent work on the field.

India lead the five-match series 1-0 with Mumbai hosting the next test from Dec. 8.
