Benoni: Australia will face Ireland in one-off One-Day International (ODI) on Tuesday before they faces hosts South Africa in a five-match series.
Australia have rested fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc for the tour to South Africa. Pacers Joe Mennie, Chris Tremain and Daniel Worrall have been named in the squad for the tour.
They will however, be led by Steven Smith who returns after being called back by Cricket Australia mid-way into the ODI series in Sri Lanka. David Warner had successfully captained the team to victory on the rest of the tour.
Ireland will look for an improved all-round display, starting with its new-ball attack of Craig Young and Peter Chase. While Young did pick up three wickets against South Africa, he went for 81 runs in his 10 overs while Chase conceded 86 in his full complement.
Ireland has been hampered by the absence of Ed Joyce and Boyd Ranking, two of its most experienced players, but for those that are in South Africa, Tuesday offers another opportunity to test themselves against another top side.
Australia, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 champion, has won three of four previous ODIs against the Irish – the other match ended in a no-result – and will look to add to that record.
For Ireland to entertain hopes of a maiden win, it will need to pull up its socks and come up with a far better showing than the one against South Africa.
Meanwhile, Australia's pace attack might be led by John Hastings, who did perform well on the tour to Sri Lanka. While Victoria's Tremain and South Australia's Mennie and Worrall have found a place in the squad for their impressive performances for Australia A, they will be assisted by Hastings and Scott Boland.
This series will also be the first for Ryan Harris, who will be working as the bowling coach for the Australian team. The game against Ireland though, might turn out to be a one-sided contest, but well, who knows if an upset might be heading our way.
