Edinburgh: The first ODI at Edinburgh has been abandoned due to bad light. There was a huge delay in the match and as a result the match was initially reduced to 21 overs per side.
Another rain interruption saw another over reduced and we were effectively witnessing a T20 game. With just 18 runs to win off the final two overs, the lights went off and it was pitch dark.
Scotland opener Kyle Coetzer was looking in excellent touch and got his side off to a good start as well. He hit six fours and a couple of sixes on his way to a 30-ball 53.
Scotland were going at nearly 10 an over at the halfway stage, but the Hong Kong bowlers pulled things back. Off-spinner Ehsan Khan on his ODI debut was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 2 for 28 in his four overs.
Fast bowler Tanveer Ahmed, also on ODI debut, failed to pick up a single wicket, but managed to restrict the Scottish batsmen to finish with 0 for 25 from his quota of four overs.
Aizaz Khan Nadeem Ahmed and Tanwir Afzal were the other wicket-takers as Scotland managed to score 153 for 6 in their 20 overs.
In chase, Hong Kong too got off to a good start with openers Nizakat Khan and Aizaz Khan, putting up 59 for the first wicket in seven overs. Nizakat looked in excellent touch, eventually finishing with 43 off 26, with six boundaries and two sixes punctuating his innings.
Skipper Babar Hayat and Anshuman Rath put on 62 for the third wicket and got Hong Kong back into the game.
The second and final ODI of the series will be played at the same venue on September 10.
