Hyderabad: Ashok Dinda shone on his Rising Pune Supergiants debut as Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a 34-run Duckworth-Lewis defeat at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in the Indian Premier League on Tuesday.
The Supergiants lost four games in a row after winning their first-ever IPL game against champions Mumbai Indians, but stopped the rot with an emphatic victory in Uppal.
Paceman Dinda claimed the key wicket of David Warner in the first over, while Mitchell Marsh and Ravichandran Ashwin also impressed with the ball as the Sunrisers could only post 118-8.
Sunrisers opener Shikhar Dhawan (56 not out from 53 balls) carried his bat but lacked support and Pune were well on course for victory at 94-3, with Steve Smith unbeaten on 46, when rain brought the game to an early end with nine overs remaining.
Warner had made four half-centuries in five innings before striding to the crease following a delayed start due to rain, but the Australia opener cut the fourth ball of the match from Supergiants debutant Dinda straight to Ajinkya Rahane at backward point.
The quick then got rid of Aditya Tare and the Sunrisers slumped to 32-5 after Marsh had England limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan (0) and Australia team-mate Moises Henriques (1) caught behind.
Dhawan stood firm, scoring at just over a run a ball, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar made a brisk 21 from only eight balls but the Sunrisers were still well short of setting an imposing target.
Rahane went without scoring in the first over from Bhuvneshwar, but Faf du Plessis (30 from 21) and Australia captain Smith put on 80 for the second wicket and there only appeared to be one winner when play was ended just after MS Dhoni (5) was dismissed.
