Chandigarh: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) cruised to a 6-wicket win against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Match 13 at PCA Mohali on Tuesday.
With this win KKR have won three out of their four matches in the tournament and go top of the IPL 2016 table, level on points with Gujarat Lions (GL).
Robin Uthappa scored a 28-ball 53 to put KKR in command and his opening partnership of 82 with Gautam Gambhir set up the platform beautifully for KKR. After Uthappa’s dismissal, Gambhir too was dismissed soon after for 34, but that did not stop KKR from completing a comfortable win
KXIP bowlers did not have many answers and were never in the game.
Pardeep Sahu’s spell was impressive, but it was not enough to stop the KKR batsmen get to an easy win. He finished with figures of 2 for 18 in his four overs and was by a long margin KXIP’s best bowler.
Akshar Patel too picked up a wicket in off the first ball of his second spell, cleaning up Manish Pandey for 12. He then removed Shakib Al Hasan, but that was not enough.
Yusuf Pathan and Suryakumar Yadav then ensured that KKR did not lose any further wickets and then won the match with ease. This will be yet another morale boosting win for KKR.
Earlier, Shaun Marsh starred for KXIP with the bat as his unbeaten fifty took KXIP to a respectable 138 for 8 in their 20 overs. Only Murali Vijay and Kyle Abbott managed to get to double figures.
Sunil Narine was excellent with the ball. He was not as impressive in the previous match, but he perhaps needed a match to settle down.
Amidst all this, Shaun Marsh was playing an excellent innings and was keeping the scorecard moving. He was KXIP’s only hope at this point and was looking well set. But he found no support at the other end.
Marsh went past his fifty with an excellent six off Andre Russell in the final over of the innings. Abbott then hit a six a couple of balls later.
KKR bowlers however kept things tight and will be overall happy with the way their bowlers bowled throughout their innings. Everybody barring Shakib were among the wickets for KKR, but he conceded just 28 runs in his four overs.
