SRH v MI, 12th match - IPL 2016, Hyderabad

Warner, Sran Earn Sunrisers First Win of the Season

Hyderabad: David Warner scored an unbeaten 90 to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad to a 7-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in IPL 9, it was SRH first win.

Warner was far from belligerent to begin with, but he never looked in any trouble either. He recieved able support from Moises Henriques, Eoin Morgan, and Deepak Hooda along the way. SRH will still have a few problems to sort out, chief among which is the prolonged poor run of Warner’s opening partner Shikhar Dhawan.

Tim Southee, who had not played a single match in the T20 World Cup 2016, was MI’s standout performer with the ball. He bowled 4 probing overs and took 3 wickets.

The first to go was Dhawan, done in by a cracking swinging yorker, bowled for 2 off 4 balls. Henriques stuck around but did not find his timing. He scored 20 off 22 balls with 1 four and 1 six before edging Southee to ‘keeper Parthiv Patel

Eoin Morgan was nearly LBW off the first ball he faced but the umpire ruled in his favour. He ended up Southee’s third victim, but the credit for the wicket deserves to go to Hardik Pandya, who took an outstanding diving catch in the deep.

The young Hooda was promoted up to No. 5, and came out all guns blazing. He smacked a couple of boundaries and ran well to remain unbeaten on 17 off 9 balls. Warner lit up proceedings toward the end as SRH scorched their way to their maiden victory of IPL 9.

Earlier, The buzz ahead of Match 12 of the 2016 Indian Premier League was about the debut of big-hitting New Zealander Martin Guptill. But the much-awaited debut came to an anti-climatic end when he was sent packing by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the first over of the match

Ambati Rayudu's 49-ball 54-run knock and Krunal Pandya's quickfire unbeaten 49 off 28 balls, Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling unit restricted Mumbai Indians to 142/6 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on Monday.

SRH bowlers started off well reducing MI to 43 for 3 by the eighth over and ended strongly giving away just 31 runs in the final five overs. Barinder Sran was the pick of the SRH bowlers returning a miserly spell of 4-0-28-3, while Mustafizur Rahman again impressed in the death overs.

After being put in to bat, Guptill's failure up the order was a big blow for MI when the New Zealander prodded an outswinger from Bhuvneshwar straight to the hands of wicketkeeper Naman Ojha in the fourth ball of the first over.

MI soon lost Parthiv Patel (10) and Rohit Sharma (5), but Rayudu held the MI innings together. Patel was undone by a slower one from Barinder Sran and SRH got the prized scalp of skipper Rohit Sharma via a run-out.

Rohit dabbed a ball to covers and took off, only to be sent back by Rayudu. Henriques collected the ball and his decent throw to the wicketkeeper forced Rohit to dive but his bat was in the air when Ojha disturbed the stumps.

Playing his 100th IPL match, Rayudu made up for the run-out cracking his 12th fifty for Mumbai and along with Krunal put MI back on track with a 63-run stand for the fifth wicket.

Pandya, who came in after the fall of Jos Buttler (11), tonked spinner Bipul Sharma for three consecutive sixes in the 14th over that went for 26 in total to build some sort of momentum for his team.

13 runs came of the next over bowled by Mustafizur, but when it looked MI might finish strong, Bhuvneshwar and Mustafizur bowled two tidy overs to derail the momentum.
