Mong Kok: The Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok finally got some cricket action and Hong Kong notched up a nine-wicket win over Scotland in the first game of the two-match Twenty20 International series on Saturday.
With all of the ICC World Cricket League at the venue washed out, chances of the match starting were slim at first but eventually the umpires deemed the underfoot conditions dry enough and the game was reduced to a 10-overs-a-side affair.
Asked to bat, Scotland was never in the battle as its batsmen went about the target-setting procedure with a bit of panic. The result of just three double-digit scores was a meagre 66 for 7 – George Munsey made 17, Matt Machan 10 and Calum MacLeod had 16 to his name. Scotland was also weighed down by the run outs, three of them.
In response, Hong Kong was off the blocks in a flash as Jamie Atkinson slammed 20 from a mere seven balls before falling to Safyaan Sharif.
Anshuman Rath was far more calculated with his unbeaten 20 from 17 balls. And Babar Hayat came up with 26 not out from 14 balls with two sixes and two fours to carry Hong Kong to 72 for 1 from just 6.2 overs.
The second T20I will be held at the same venue on Sunday.
