Adelaide: Australia have seized momentum of the third day-night Test as New Zealand held a modest 94-run lead on day two at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday.
The hosts produced a spirited comeback after being bundled out for 224 as New Zealand reached 116-5 in their second innings at stumps with Mitchell Santner and BJ Watling remaining unbeaten on their respective scores of 13 and seven.
Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the Australian bowlers by claiming three wickets of Tom Latham (10), Martin Guptill (17) and Ross Taylor (32).
Meanwhile, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh provided substantial support by taking two crucial wickets of Kane Williamson (nine) and captain Brendon McCullum (20).
Earlier, captain Steve Smith tried to provide stability in the innings by raising his fighting half-century off 108 balls.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Peter Nevill was the top scorer for Australia with 66 and received able support from Nathan Lyon (34), who survived a controversial Decision Review System when the hosts were reeling at 118-8.
'Hot Spot', however, revealed a mark on the back of his bat before he had scored. The duo then went on to make a 74-run stand for the ninth wicket after Lyon received a reprieval, Sport24 reported.
The match also saw a total of 13 wickets tumble with the pink ball on another fast-paced day's cricket in front of 42,372 fans
