Sharjah: England all-rounder Ben Stokes suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder on the first day of the third Test against Pakistan in Sharjah on Sunday.
The 24-year-old landed heavily on his right shoulder as he dived in a failed attempt to catch Sarfraz Ahmed at square-leg with the score 190-5.
Stokes was in obvious discomfort as he lay face down on the outfield.
After receiving treatment, Stokes left the pitch using his shirt as a makeshift sling.
BBC Test Match Special commentator Charles Dagnall said: "He landed with his arms outstretched.
"His immediate reaction was to kick the turf with both legs. Immediately, the players knew."
Former England batsman Geoffrey Boycott added: "He nearly made a catch from nothing. He leapt seven or eight feet into the air and nearly caught it because he's an athletic young man."
