Sydney: Steve Smith has been officially crowned as Australia's next one-day international captain and will lead a squad featuring seven new faces for the limited-overs matches on the Qantas Tour of the British Isles.
Smith will be without World Cup stars Mitchell Johnson and Josh Hazlewood, who have both been rested following the Ashes series defeat, allrounder James Faulkner and opening batsman Aaron Finch, who is still recovering from a foot injury picked up playing county cricket in the UK.
Batsman Joe Burns is in line to make his one-day debut, added to the squad after blistering form on the Australia A tour in India where he last week smashed 14 sixes in posting 154 from just 131 balls in Chennai.
Burns is expected to replace the injured Finch and partner David Warner at the top of the order for Australia's six ODI matches and one T20 international.
Also in line to make their ODI debuts are spinner Ashton Agar, the sole specialist spinner in the ODI squad, and allrounder Marcus Stoinis. Fast bowlers Nathan Coulter-Nile and James Pattinson plus wicketkeeper Matthew Wade have all been recalled to the national team from the 'A' Tour.
Australia squad: Steve Smith (Capt.), Shane Watson, David Warner, Marcus Stoinis, Cameron Boyce (T20I only), George Bailey, Matthew Wade (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Joe Burns, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Patrick Cummins, James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc, Ashton Agar.
