Birmingham: James Anderson claimed six wickets on Wednesday as he helped England to bundle out Australia for a paltry 136 on the opening day of the third Ashes Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Opting to bat first, Australia stuttered from the start of their innings as Chris Rogers couldn't find an able ally in rest of the batsmen. The veteran batsman, who recovered from a dizzy spell at Lord's, made a hard-fought 52.
Anderson returned figures of 6-47, the fourth-best figures of his Test career, while Stuart Broad and Steven Finn shared four wickets between themselves.
In reply, England made 133-3 at stumps, with Joe Root (30 not out) and Jonny Bairstow (1) on the crease.
Ian Bell scored a well-made 53 before he was dismissed by a delivery from Nathan Lyon, who also claimed the wicket of captain Alastair Cook for 34.
Earlier, England lost opener Adam Lyth for 10 as he was dismissed off Josh Hazelwood's bowling.
