Karachi: Pakistan Wednesday announced a 15-man squad for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, from February 14 to March 29.
Umar Gul is not a part of Pakistan's squad for the 2015 ICC World Cup, but batsman Younis Khan an allrounder Mohammad Hafeez have found themselves included by the national selectors.
Fast bowler Gul's absence has largely to do with the fact that he has not completely recovered from a knee problem that has dogged him. Gul underwent an operation last May in Melbourne after suffering a recurrence of the knee injury and has struggled to touch top fitness and bowling form since completing the rehabilitation period.
Hafeez, despite having reportedly failed the unofficial bowling action test in Chennai recently, has been picked in squad of 15 while Younis, who recently returned to the ODI setup after a superb resurgence as a Test batsman, has also achieved his goal of playing one last World Cup.
The squad is made up of players who have featured regularly for Pakistan over the past year. Young allrounder Harris Sohail's ODI form against New Zealand last month has earned him a maiden World Cup berth, while wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed's 2014 run of good scores in all formats has been rewarded too.
The PCB selectors have named five fast bowlers - Mohammad Irfan, Junaid Khan, Ehsan Adil, Sohail Khan, Wahab Riaz - and Yasir Shah as the specialist spinner to back-up Shahid Afridi.
Pakistan also name same squad for two match series against New Zealand on 31 January in Wellington and 3 February in Napier.
Pakistan squad for World Cup and NZ tour: Misbah ul Haq (Captain), Shahid Afridi (vice-captain), Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Hafeez, Younis Khan, Haris Sohail, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wk), Umar Akmal, Sohaib Maqsood, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Irfan, Junaid Khan, Ehsan Adil, Sohail Khan and Wahab Riaz.
