Adelaide: Virat Kohli's Indians ticked a few more boxes to complete a satisfactory two-day tour match against the Cricket Australia XI at Gliderol Stadium on Tuesday, with Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Wriddhiman Saha, Karn Sharma and the skipper scoring fifties and Suresh Raina warming up with 44 off 49 balls from No 7.
From an overnight 55/1, the Indians ended the game at 363/8.
It wasn't an entirely productive outing, however, for after Shikhar Dhawan's early departure the yesterday evening, Ajinkya Rahane (1) and Rohit Sharma (23) failed to use the opportunity to bat against a spirited if strictly workmanlike and inexperienced bowling attack.
After the bowlers went through their paces on opening day, it was the turn of the batsmen to use the final day to acclimatise to conditions in Adelaide.
The overnight batsmen, Vijay and Pujara, duly retired after bringing up their half-centuries in the morning session; Vijay for 51 off 82 balls and Pujara 55 off 80.
Kohli came out to bat at No 4 and began with a couple steered boundaries either side of gully, but Rahane did not last long. Driving hard at Sam Grimwade, the No 5 was well taken by a diving Ryan Carters behind the stumps.
Rohit unfurled a series of punch boundaries, the highlight being a firm back-foot punch off David Moody, but was adjudged lbw to Josh Lalor on the stroke of lunch, playing back in the crease.
From 267/7, Saha helped take the Indians past 300 with a busy 56 not out off 75 deliveries. Offering solid support in a 78-run stand for the ninth wicket was uncapped legspinner Karn Sharma, whose unbeaten 54-ball 52 included five fours and two sixes.
