India v Sri Lanka, 3rd ODI, Hyderabad

Clinical India Wrap up the Series 3-0

Hyderabad: Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli scored half centuries as India comfortably beat Sri Lanka by six wickets on Sunday.

This victory, coming in the third match of the one-day international (ODI) series, ensured that India would win the series.

In the match, Kohli became the fastest batman to score 6,000 ODI runs, taking just 136 innings to reach the milestone and in the process breaking the record which was held by West Indies legend Vivian Richards. Richards had taken a further five innings to reach that mark.

Earlier in the day, a century by Mahela Jayawardene and a half-century by Tillakaratne Dilshan propped Sri Lanka to 242 runs after a poor show by the visitors, with eight of the other batsmen in the Lankan side failing to score past 10 runs.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals, with only Jayawardene (118) and Dilshan (53) amongst the runs.

Among India's bowlers, Umesh Yadav and Akshar Patel, with 4-53 and 3-38 respectively, registered their best-ever bowling figures.

India started its innings strongly, with openers Ajinkya Rahane and Dhawan scoring 61 runs for the first wicket before the former fell to Thisara Perera. Last match's hero Ambati Rayadu got off to an excellent start, but got run-out in a mix-up with Dawan, falling for 35.

Skipper Kohli (53) and Dhawan (91) then mopped up the rest of the Lankan bowling attack, and though both lost their wickets before the end, the damage had by then been done.

Apart from Kohli's record, the match saw a number of other records broken. Jayawardene's century ensured that he became the fifth batsman and the third Sri Lankan to cross the 12,000 runs mark in ODIs.

Meanwhile, Dhawan became the fifth fastest batman and the fastest Indian to cross the 2,000 ODI runs mark, reaching the milestone in 48 innings

Earlier, Sri Lanka have won the toss and have opted to bat.

India have one change -- Ravindra Jadeja rested; Dhawal Kulkarni. Sri Lanka also made a couple of changes --  Suraj Randiv and Dhammika Prasad are out, Chaturanga de Silva and Nuwan Kulasekara are in.
