Abu Dhabi: Mitchell Marsh scored a fighting 87 before Australia were bowled out for 261 on day 3 of the second Test. Pakistan were 61/2 at stump on day 4, took total 370-run lead.
After departure of the openers, Younis Khan and Azhar Ali put on a steady stand to take Pakistan to 61/2 at stump, leading by 370.
Marsh and Peter Siddle (28) added 62 for the ninth wicket, but their stand may only serve to have prolonged the agony, as the pair both departed shortly after tea but Pakistan decided not the follow on.
The hosts lead by 309 on the first innings.
Marsh was the first to lose his wicket after tea after Siddle successfully had an lbw verdict overturned, the allrounder seemingly surprised by a full toss from Imran Khan and dispatching it straight to Azhar Ali at mid on.
Two balls later, Siddle advanced down the track to the bowling of Mohammad Hafeez and chipped a simple chance down the throat of Yasir Shah at long on.
For an all-too brief period after lunch it seemed as if Marsh and Michael Clarke might somehow pull their team from the fire, but that hope quickly evaporated with the captain's wicket.
Clarke, who scored 2 and 3 in the Dubai Test, shook off the rust as he played some classy strokes, using his feet well and looking back to his best against pace and spin.

The skipper and the man he has anointed to be a future leader of this Test team added 64 in partnership.
Clarke had hit seven fours, none better than the lofted drive from the leg-spinner Yasir, skipping down the track to the pitch of the ball and sending a sweetly-timed stroke to the fence.
Despite the loss of his captain, Marsh, in only his second Test match, batted with discipline, playing straight and scoring the majority of his runs between cover and mid-on.
He offered only one chance, flashing hard at a wide ball from Khan to edge wide of second slip. Such is the velocity of a ball hit by the powerfully-built Marsh, Asad Shafiq's hand could not grasp the catch nor prevent the boundary.
Brad Haddin (10) bravely came out to bat, his injured right shoulder heavily strapped up under his shirt. He lasted 33 minutes before overplaying the leg-spin of Yasir, an inside edge ricocheting into middle stump.
Mitchell Johnson (0) edged his fifth ball behind, was dropped, but only a ball later, determined to take the fight to the Pakistan bowlers, he slog swept Yasir.
A top edge skied high to short midwicket, presenting a simple catch to Mohammad Hafeez.
Earlier, Australia's top order crumbled. David Warner (19), Glenn Maxwell (37) and Steven Smith (0) all perished, as did nightwatchman Nathan Lyon (15).
