Colombo: Sri Lanka Cricket announced a 15-man squad for the first three ODIs of the five-match series in India on Wednesday, with uncapped fast bowler Lahiru Gamage being named in the squad.
There was, however, no place for vice-captain Lahiru Thirimanne, Dinesh Chandimal, Rangana Herath and Lasith Malinga, who is nursing an injury.
Sri Lanka are playing a hastily-arranged five-ODI series in India after the West Indies pulled out midway into their tour.
The 26-year-old pacer was called up as a back-up for the injured Shaminda Eranga for the second Test against Pakistan at home two months ago, but was made to wait for his maiden international cap. Gamage, however, got a look-in for the India ODIs after impressive performances for Sri Lanka A teams.
Opener Kusal Perera returned to the squad after missing the home ODIs against Pakistan, while offspinner Suraj Randiv retained his place in the squad despite not figuring in the matches against Pakistan. He last played an ODI in 2011.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Chandimal was left out of the squad after a string of poor performances, while Thirimanne, who was vice-captain of the side against Pakistan in August, was rested. Chathuranga De Silva, another left-handed batsman, was named in the fifteen in his place.
While senior batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara were included, Sri Lanka's spin stocks looked weakened by the absence of Rangana Herath. Randiv will lead Sri Lanka's spin attack in the company of Seekuga Prasanna.
Sri Lanka squad for first three ODI: Angelo Mathews (capt), Kusal Janith Perera, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Mahela Jayawardena, Ashan Priyanjan, Niroshan Dickwella (wk), Thisara Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara, Dhammika Prasad, Lahiru Gamage, Chathuranga De Silva, Seekuge Prasanna, Suraj Randiv
